First off, let me just say that, Ubu Walker, I completely agree with most of your arguments. The fact is, the arguments I listed weren't arguments by me. They are stupid complaints I've actually heard of and decided to clarify my view on them. Most of them are completely absurd. I'd like to comment more on what you stated.

1. "It looks like and behaves like GNOME which is the default GUI on many other distros."

I agree in looks, but I've heard people try to claim the "feel" is trying to simply be like Windows, as well as the "crisp" clean look. But to me, how can you define that as being "Windows" GUI. Microsoft has been writing a lot "cleaner" and "slicker" looking GUI's before most other OS's but it's not really "theirs", so yeah..

2. "International users are using Ubuntu as their OS, instead of spending extra money for Windows. Technically inclined noobs who read MaxPC or Digg might try out an Ubuntu Live CD, and then install a Dual Boot with windows…but a total replacement? Not happening."

Yes, international users are using it quite more commonly, which is great. On your point of noob users not switching, well...that may be in the cases you know of, but in mine I know many people who are simply so fed up Windows they just ditch it completely and just deal with having to learn to use Ubuntu(Which isn't very hard).

3. "Most experts just don’t have time."

Yes, some people just don't have the time, and that's quite common. Yet, I've seen this happen a lot, and it's NOT because of that reason. I personally know one guy who said you had to submit him a form(document more or less) stating where you looked for your solution, how long you looked, etc and he would determine if it was sufficient enough or not. If it wasn't, he wouldn't answer your question. He REALLY stuck to this rule, always.

4. "Even a noob realizes that he isn’t using Windows"

I've actually had people think I was using Windows but had just happened to change the theme and layout because a lot of the "sharpness"(like Vista's look), etc was similar to the way I had mine setup. By default, maybe not so much, but if you add all the bells and whistles, change the theme around, and add a new wallpaper and you'd be surprised how many noobs don't notice until you actually start to "use" the system.

5. "I’m not a noob, but I love showing off my Ubuntu Netbook on my eeepc, and then I ask people to guess how much it costs…when I tell them $350, they never believe me :-) I’m a geek though, so there."

You're situation is a bit different, you're showing off more like "Look at all the functionality I get for so little!" rather than "Look, I'm a Linux user! I'm uber awesome and you suck because you use Windows!" There is a difference to me. ;)

With all that said, thanks for the comments/criticism Ubu Walker. I love to rant and rave, especially when people reply back ranting and raving about my post(not that you were doing that :) ). It's just good constructional criticism, if it doesn't get too heated. :)

1. “Ubuntu’s GUI is becoming like Windows”

False. It looks like and behaves like GNOME which is the default GUI on many other distros. In fact, besides the brown, it feels the same as OpenSolaris, that I just installed on a VM.

And Ubuntu's Netbook GUI is completely different than anything I've seen any other distro's do.

2. “Noob users are turning to Ubuntu as a free replacement 4 XP"

False. International users are using Ubuntu as their OS, instead of spending extra money for Windows. Technically inclined noobs who read MaxPC or Digg might try out an Ubuntu Live CD, and then install a Dual Boot with windows...but a total replacement? Not happening. Xandros on the Eee is selling like hotcakes though! My fiancee uses it on hers, and she loves it.

3. “All Linux users hate answering noob’s questions”

False. Most experts just don't have time. This is why I love Ubuntu Forums...someone is always willing to answer even stupid questions.

4. “The fact that you don’t notice you’re using Linux is just crazy”

Even a noob realizes that he isn't using Windows. But a well executed product like Ubuntu makes it feel like a natural experience. People who use Mac don't realize they are using BSD either...

5. “I want to show off”

I'm not a noob, but I love showing off my Ubuntu Netbook on my eeepc, and then I ask people to guess how much it costs...when I tell them $350, they never believe me :-) I'm a geek though, so there.
