Subliminal Messaging

Subliminal messaging is all around us. The mind often perceives something different than what it is actually being given. Perception dynamically varies even with static data being received(via our 5 senses).
The 5 senses we have are used to simply relay information to our brain. However, it is up to our brain to determine how it see’s fit to use that information. Think of it like this, if a man exists in front of us that is holding up a cup, and our eyes accept this data perfectly, does that mean we will see a man holding a cup? Negative. Just as the information we find on the internet is simply data that we choose to do with as we please, so is the information we receive from our senses. Our brain may say that no such cup even exists, that the man is simply standing there holding his hand out as if he had a cup in his hand.
The result isn’t an alter of what is real or not. The man still has a cup in his hand, even though our brain may try to interpret differently. I’ve got a video of a man known as Derren Brown that I’d like to refer to. Some of you may enjoy his works, others may not. Either way, this video is a rather good demonstration.
Please don’t read on
till after watching the video, otherwise you’re defeating the whole purpose.

Here is the quote I put on YouTube that sums this video up:
It’s sad that most people don’t get how he can accomplish this feat.
It has NOTHING to do with how “simple” minded most people are and so they tend to pick that same thing, blah, blah, blah…
Look at 0:11, he is presenting a circle(his left hand) inside a triangle(his right hand). To confirm this, just take a look at 0:25 where he asks if you understand “why” you chose what you did. He is presenting the same motion with his hands. He is simply letting you know he has messed with your mind.
It becomes very obvious that people miss these things quite easily and then try to make their own deductions. The problem with this, is that they aren’t seeing the real picture and they are simply guessing. Guessing should be stated in a more proper manner such as “Well, I guess…”, or “Well, I think…”. Enough of my ranting though.
The question you need to be pondering now is this:
How many people actually perceived what his hands were doing even though their eyes received all data necessary to make that distinction?
Everyone captured all data with their eyes the first time they watched the video but how many of them do you think actually caught what was going on the first time through? I’m willing to bet very few.
I’ve been reading more and more into Hypnosis, EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), NLP(Neuro-Linguistic Programming), etc. Interesting subjects that make you think. Belief is a powerful thing.
