Weekly Summary – May 20th, 2011
On Tuesday night, at around 11 pm I decided to randomly do a fasting period. So far I’ve been able to keep my Japanese studies on track though, by making sure to not slack even though at times I had a headache and was drained. It felt good to cleanse my system a little bit. Maybe next time I’ll shoot for 7-10 days, but with juices.
Japanese
I decided to go through a book I’ve owned for awhile, but never really did anything with, which was Mangajin’s Basic Japanese Through Comics – Volume 1 . @e_dub_kendo had suggested to me that it was a great book and that I should go through it. Not only did I finish it within a few days, but already I ordered and received Volume 2 at my doorstep today. I’ve got a few other books I’m looking at/going through now, but I’ll get to Volume 2 soon enough. Maybe I’ll even just read a chapter here and there, off to the side, since each chapter is contained and not reliant upon another chapter.
I’ve been going through Japanese in Mangaland as I’ve just received the entire series. I had JIML 1, which I’ve already done but now I’m going through the Workbook for 1 and JIML 2. Just started both, so not very far in, but they both seem really nice and at least half way interesting, which is much better than most textbooks.
The other note I’d like to mention is that I’ve bumped my Core 2000 per day number up to 25 per day. I also did more than normal on a few days, so I’ve actually made a decent jump forward and should end a lot sooner than planned, but who knows.. maybe I’ll need a day or two break to let certain words settle in if I start to get swamped with reviews, so I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch.
Here are my weekly stats:
Kanji: 1077 / 2042 (RTK1 – 15 per day)
Core 2000: 506 / 2000 (25 per day – quite a big jump from last weeks 180/2000)
Fitness
Well, the only thing that went on is that I ended up doing a 60 hour fast which ended at 11 am today (Friday). It wasn’t too bad, but considering I was only taking in water and also exercising, it made it a bit tougher. Though, on Wednesday I had my best day of climbing yet. I was able to send a route I had previously been far from completing. Generally my fingers didn’t have the strength, but I was able to easily tackle that bad boy after a friend of mine who is quite skilled spotted me. Within a week or so, I’m sure I’ll be using it as one of my warm-ups, while moving on to master some of the next harder ones!
Here are my weekly stats:
Weight: 145 lb
Body Fat: 5.5% (based on OMRON)
Calories per day: 2400 (most days, but 60 hours of fasting at one point)
I went down a few pounds, but I’m pretty sure most of that was from the lack of having food in my stomach, plus all the water weight I probably lost. I was 150 lb when I started the fast. I’d say around 1-2 lb’s of that was fat at most. Did it for a cleanse. Now I’m going to come off keto, eat semi-low amount of carbs but not low enough to be in keto. I need more carbs to fuel my system so I can push it as hard as I need to be, doing Asylum, Rock Climbing, etc.

I’m just curious, but why did you fast? Grats on getting through the books and the exercises you wanted to.

Just for fun, to see how it would be. I like to experiment trying different things with my body and mind.
Fasting, Intermittent Fasting, Keto, etc. ^^;

Oh wow, you sure go through books fast, it takes me a while to get through a book. Good luck on Japanese in Mangaland 1, 2 and then 3 XD I stopped halfway through 3. Mangaland 1 was ok but I got bored during 2 and 3.
You seem to be doing a lot of Japanese as opposed to me XD I think I’ve just stopped caring about reviewing, adding extra, just taking life easy (and waiting for SS to catch up to my current progress)

Well, I had done JIML 1 a while back, but yeah, I flew through Mangajin Vol 1. XD
I’m doing a lot of Japanese, but generally.. it’s just because I’m having fun doing it, not like.. “I HAVE to do this entire book NOW O_O” I don’t do that. xD

Nice! I did a 30 day water only fast maybe 4 months back. With water fasting the real deal doesn’t even start until you’re past 5 days. At that point your hunger is 100% gone and don’t get headaches and stuff.

How was your energy levels during that? =o
I don’t mean just normal, I mean like.. exercising?
Cause I do a ton of exercising. ^^;

Umm…hm. I experienced a lot of ups and downs with that. There was a point where I felt as if I had more energy than I did when I was eating, but the energy was very fickle in that if I tried any real exertion or anything it would quickly fade. So if you’re the type of person who has to exercise every day, I wouldn’t recommend it. Or just take a break from heavy exercise and just go on long walks or even a short jog if you feel like it. But no running or rock climbing or anything or you’d probably find yourself passed out. Or at least I would. haha
