Weekly Summary – August 12th, 2011
This past week has been amazing, simply for the fact that I’m enjoying having completed RTK1 and not having to learn any more Kanji at the moment! That and the fact that I’ve started a new 4 week workout program.
Getting Rid of English Sites and Subs!
Part of immersing yourself in Japanese involves limiting your contact with your L1 (native language, which is English for me), and replacing it with Japanese contact. An instance of this would be visiting Japanese websites instead of English websites, reading JP books instead of ENG books, etc. We already covered video games earlier this past week. The next big time sucker is websites!
Play Video Games You Lazy Bastard!
One of the biggest hobbies or interests in the world is video games. I know more people that play video games than don’t. Now that we’ve identified video games as a common time sucker for most people, we need to make that laziness (relaxiness?
) productive!
Weekly Summary – August 5th, 2011
It’s been a little while since I did a weekly summary. Mostly because I’ve been busy as I was actually spending what time I had to do my Japanese. Took on a second position/role at work, which meant moving desks yet again, and getting caught up to speed on some of the new tasks I’m going to be helping out with. Then got a freaking ear infection. Let’s move on to the good bits of this past week..
Go Big or Go Home: Japanese OS
One of the biggest, scariest things a person can do is to jump head first into water without being able to see whats beneath. This applies to about any and all situations you can think of. People like to ease themselves into things, because it supposedly makes the discomfort gradual and thus easier to handle. Truth be told, they’re just scared. We all are at one point or another. Here’s to getting over that! Japanese Windows 7, here I come! *splash*
Keeping Jacked In
The whole point of AJATT, or immersion in general, is to keep in constant contact with your L2 (for me, Japanese). This gets divided into two areas. One is reading/writing and the other is listening. I’ve shown you how I keep manga, Japanese posters, etc all around me, even at work, but let me show you how I keep my ears jacked in each day.
